The Oregon Coast is at risk for earthquakes and subsequent Tsunamis, as well as serious storms and long-term power outages. Increasingly, we are at risk for wildfires. The reality is that in the event of a major disaster, we will not be the top priority for emergency services as they will focus on areas with the largest number of people. Community resiliency is a goal for those working in the area of disaster preparedness. This means we need to have neighbors coordinate and look out for each other, share resources. We need to plan, individually and collectively, how to endure the lack of outside support we have grown accustomed to in the event of major and minor disasters.
